History

Easter is a spring holiday celebrated by the Christians all over the world. It commemorates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead. As per the Christian scripture, on the third day of Jesus' crucifixion, he was resurrected from the dead and people celebrate Easter or Easter Sunday two days after Good Friday (the day when Jesus' was crucified). Easter, which marks the end of Lent - a season of fasting, prayer and penance is a moveable feast.

According to some scholars, the name Easter has been derived from the word Eostre which was the name of an Anglo Saxon goddess of spring. Later, with time Christianity replaced the pagan worship of goddess Eostre by Easter.
